Scope of Activity

Coordinate work among the several CCSDS Working Groups that are developing XML standards, Develop a set of XML guidelines to guide development of future CCSDS XML standards.

Rationale for Activity

CCSDS has several working groups that have developed, or are developing, XML schema (and DTD), based standards. These follow no identified guidelines and have been difficult to re-use because of divergent terminology and approaches.

Goals

Create a common XML schema approach across CCSDS that promotes re-use and adoption of common terms where applicable.

Survey of Similar Standards Efforts Undertaken in
Other Bodies and elsewhere in CCSDS

The XML guidelines are expected to leverage similar work done in ESA and also by Google, as well as other organizations. This is not unqiue to space nor CCSDS, but we do need a set of guidelines that will work in our context of interoperable and re-usable standards.

Patent Licensing Applicability for Future Standards

No patent issues, technology is well understood and widely used.

Technical Risk Mitigation Strategy

Management Risk Mitigation Strategy

The biggest issue with this SIG approach is that there are not adequate resources to accomplish this work. Accordingly the work is proposed for transfer into the SAWG that is being re-started. If that WG is created and "funded" this work will be done there.
