Overview
Project Title
Wireless Network Communications Overview for Space Mission Operations (Issue 4)
Approval
Approved
Document Number
CCSDS-880.0-G-4
Charter
4.03 Onboard Wireless Working Group
Document Type
Green
Description of Document
Update/refresh of wireless networking tecnologies (focus is on 3GPP LTE/5G/6G and Wi-Fi) for space mission operations.
Applicable Patents
There are no patent issues for this technology that are known by the CCSDS community
Patent Comments
The existence of patents is known for 3GPP LTE/5G supporting technologies as this was the case for CCSDS-883-0-R-0. However, this is not a concern as the LTE and 5G ecosystem is world-wide, and all associated patents are reasonable and non-discriminatory (RAND).
Survey of Similar Standards
Documents or Projects
Undertaken in Other Bodies
and elsewhere in CCSDS
The goal of the Green Book (GBv4) effort is to survey and review applicable wireless network standards including 3GPP and IEEE and standardize applicable protocols (such as 4G, LTE, 5G, 802.11ax, etc.) in support of exploration-class space missions. The revision project builds upon the specifications already in the upcoming CCSDS-0-883-B-2 book. The SOIS-WIR WG will liaise with SLS-RFM to ensure ITU and SFCG regulations and recommendations compliance including those for the Shielded Zone of the Moon.
