Description of Document
Most, if not all software applications and devices implement the concept of reconfigurable data item containers. Containers group logically related parameters to configure a function in an atomic way. These containers are created, edited, loaded, dumped, and configuration managed by mission software tools. Currently these tools are custom per container with little/no commonality of developer and operator user interfaces. These container concepts apply equally to flight and ground data systems and missions have requested standards and tools to sopport these use case. The SOIS-App WG asserts that there would be significant mission cost savings and improvement to interoperability if a common specification language was used Since this supports interoperability across missions and agencies, CCSDS is the correct standards organization to develop the standard. This Orange book will address the use cases with a collaboration between different areas working groups to determine how best to develop these standards and ensure mission infusion.
