SOIS Area

OVERVIEW - SPACECRAFT ONBOARD INTERFACE SERVICES AREA (SOIS)

Welcome to the Spacecraft Onboard Interface Services Area (SOIS) Collaborative Work Environment.

The primary objective of the CCSDS SOIS standard development activities is to radically improve the spacecraft flight segment data systems design and development process by defining generic services that will simplify the way flight software interacts with flight hardware and permitting interoperability and reusability both for the benefit of Agencies and Industrial contractors.

SOIS-APP

OVERVIEW - APPLICATION SUPPORT SERVICES WORKING GROUP (SOIS-APP)

Welcome to the Applications Support Services Working Group Collaborative Work Environment. The Applications Support Services Working Group (SOIS-APP) falls under the Spacecraft Onboard Interface Services (SOIS) Areas of the CCSDS.

The Applications Support Services Working Group defines standard services that are provided to onboard software applications. These services isolate the flight software from the underlying hardware details and thereby increase the portability and reuse potential of the flight software. Furthermore, the service access points constitute cross support interfaces.

The standard services that are addressed by this working group are those that have been identified during previous CCSDS SOIF activities as being common requirements in all spacecraft missions, and providing the maximum benefit for flight software development. Furthermore, it is explicitly recognized that interoperability and cross support capabilities need to be provided throughout the project lifecycle, and particularly during application development, integration, and testing, not just during operations.

SOIS-WIR

OVERVIEW - WIRELESS WORKING GROUP (SOIS-WIR)

Welcome to the Wireless Working Group Collaborative Work Environment.  The Wireless Working Group (SOIS-WIR) falls under the Spacecraft Onboard Interface Services (SOIS) Areas of the CCSDS.

The short term aims of the Wireless Working Group will be:

  1. Identify scenarios in future missions where the use of wireless interfaces are of interest and offer advantages.
  2. Document the experiences and best current practices in developing wireless interfaces for spacecraft.
  3. Based on lessons learned and experience in implementing wireless interfaces (optical and RF) in past and current space projects, identify the key issues that need to be addressed when implementing wireless interfaces for future spacecraft.
  4. Examine existing activities in the SOIS area and in CCSDS to see which of these issues are already being addressed, and which still need to be addressed.
  5. Examine the areas that are not currently being addressed, and if necessary generate a proposal for new work items to address them.

SOIS-OPP

OVERVIEW - ONBOARD PLUG & PLAY BIRDS OF A FEATHER (SOIS-OPP)

Welcome to the Onboard Plug & Play Birds of a Feather Collaborative Work Environment.  The Onboard Plug & Play Birds of a Feather (SOIS-OPP) falls under the Spacecraft Onboard Interface Services (SOIS) Areas of the CCSDS.

There is a strong belief that plug and play concepts could beneficially be applied to spacecraft onboard systems. The benefits are expected to include increased re-use potential for flight software and hardware components, and improved quality and maintainability of flight software.
